Sony has a tendency to package incredible new technology seamlessly into their design. A first glance at the would reveal nothing out of the ordinary. The design of these headphones is familiar, and its striking matte finish with tasteful highlights for the Sony name evoke a subtle elegance. Upon further investigation, however, not everything is as clear as it might seem.
The interesting texture of the outside of the ear cups is actually a design feature of the functional touchpad built into the headphones. Now, instead of buttons, you can intuitively control your music by swiping your fingers along the trackpad, which makes us feel more sophisticated already.
Looking at the USB port, it also becomes evident that the format is a little different than the standard USB style. The WH-1000XM3 headphones actually sport a USB-C port, an important step in ensuring the long-term usability of these headphones.
In terms of actual hardware itself, the headphones continue to impress us. Featuring 40mm liquid crystal polymer diaphragms, these headphones are able to deliver a deep bass like nothing we’ve ever heard before, and their batteries offer an astonishing 30 hours of listening on a single charge, even with active noise canceling turned on. Well done, Sony, well done.
Skullcandy is interested in keeping their products as accessible as possible for everyone, and their new certainly further that mentality. The new model offers a sleeker, subtler fashion that many other large brands like Sony and Bose have adopted for their over-ear models. The result is a look that’s been proven to appeal to a great deal of people, and we’d be lying if we said it doesn’t look great. The ear cups have a generous amount of foam padding that allows the cups to sit comfortably on your ears for hours at a time, and the headphones themselves aren’t too heavy so your head doesn’t feel strained if you have long listening times.
The hardware specifications certainly bring a lot to the table as well. These headphones feature active noise canceling technology, and their wireless feature allows users to listen to their favorite music in a completely cord-free environment.
Their batteries can deliver 24 hours of listening on a full charge, and with the amazing rapid charge technology that has graced headphones recently you can achieve 5 hours of listening after only 10 minutes of charging.
Two of our favorite features, though, are monitor mode and their built-in finding app by Tile. Monitor mode allows you to subdue the active noise canceling feature for a few seconds, so you can ask a question or respond to someone, without going through the hassle of pausing your music. It’s simple, and like many simple things, it’s enormously convenient in many interactions throughout the day. The built-in finding app by Tile allows you to locate your headphones wherever they could have gone, another simple-yet-important feature that greatly takes the stress off of owning a pair of premium headphones. The Skullcandy Venue Active Noise canceling Wireless Headphones are impressive to their core, and we hope you’re as excited about them as we are.
To round out our selection for you today, we decided to focus on the over-ear headphones eager little cousin, the earbud. Specifically, . These truly wireless beauties ensure that you’ll never have to face wires getting in your way again: you just pop the separate buds into your ears and you can start your musical journey. A legitimate worry with truly wireless earbuds is that they could be easier to lose: fortunately, Plantronics circumvented this by adding large ear loops that wrap around your cartilage, which are surprisingly comfortable as well.
A single charge delivers five hours of listening, and the soft-shell carrying case can charge your buds on the go, allotting you an extra 10 hours of listening between your formal charges. They’re also IP57-rated against water and sweat, ensuring that no matter how strenuous your workout you’ll never have to worry about damaging your gear.
These headphones have gotten us truly excited, and we at ýapp see plenty of opportunities for their use: layovers between flights, relaxing at the hotels, or treating yourself to a luxurious flight. Travel headphones bring the best of comfort and noise-canceling technology together, and this list stands as a testament to the wonders this combination can bring.
